TOPIC QUESTIONS
Education- In order for schools to be funded by the government they dropped the meap and have requirements for schools, such as having every student taking the ACT exam. Some of the candidates want to end the no child left behind, and some of them want to reform it. Do you think with the no child left behind program will increase or decrease in students graduating or attending schools?
Iraq- Almost all candidates said if they are chosen that they will withdraw the troops from Iraq by March of 2008. What I know about the war in Iraq is that our troops are over there fighting for nothing. What Can the candidates say that is believable that they will pull the troops since how our last president said he would and didn’t?
Guns- there is still debate about gun ownership. Almost all of the candidates are in support of owing a gun as long as they have a license to own it. What do you think should happen with the nation’s laws about owning guns?

Appeals are used in every day live. We use them to write, and talk, we even see them on television. It is pretty easy for me to see the authors emotions such as; sadness, happiness, fear, worried, scared, excited, nervous, etc. Although if the reader doesn't use very much detail it is very difficult to understand how they are feeling. When a writer is trying to get their point across they need to use a lot of detail. For example if you want people to stop smoking instead of just saying stop smoking they need to give a story about how someone lost their lung or something like that. As far as understanding an authors logic i can get that also if they use detail but it takes a lot for me to use logic when writing my own papers. I always know what i want to say but it is difficult for me to write it down on paper. When i write my papers i don't hold back, i speak my mind no matter what others think. To me that is being moral but to the others that don't agree it might make me look bad.

The article “Banning Bitch and Ho: if words are outlawed, only outlaws will have words,” written by Dennis Baron on August 08, 2007 is about the way people use the words bitch, ho, and the “n” word. Basically the article is saying how there is a movement that wants to ban the words ho, bitch, and the “n” word, they also want the music industry to get rid of these words also.
Baron showed very good logos in this article, he gave many different examples of where the words are used and how they are used. One of the examples Baron uses is “in the Merriam- Webster dictionary the definition of nigger connects to the word African Americans.”
When the article talks about flipping words from negative to being positive for example the word gay. “Gay rights activists in the 1970’s purposely began flipping gay from negative to positive, and at least some women are adapting bitch as a good thing.” Or how women are adapting to bitch as a good thing. I would like to believe that Baron is being sarcastic but the sad thing is that this is really happening. I think this article has some very good points, it is sad but most of the stuff is true when it shouldn’t be. There is a t-shirt that people actually wear that says, “You say bitch as if it was a bad thing,” what women would buy that and promote that it is alright for people or men to call us bitches?
This article was an eye opener about some of the words my friends and I use and how we use them. It wasn’t very persuasive it was just giving facts about what is happening to our world today. Article

Hey Bitch

Basically the article is saying how there is a movement that wants to ban the words such as; ho, bitch, and the “n” word, they also want the music industry to get rid of these words.
Baron showed very good logos in this article, he gave many different examples of where the words are used and how they are used. One of the examples Baron uses is “in the Merriam- Webster dictionary the definition of nigger connects to the word African Americans.” I personally think that the word nigger has two different meanings to it- for an African American it is a negative word and for a white person it is not. I am not African American so I don’t get offended by the word but what I don’t understand is why it is alright for an African Americans to call each other that but no one else can.
When the article talks about flipping words from negative to being positive for example the word gay- “Gay rights activists in the 1970’s purposely began flipping gay from negative to positive- and at least some women are adapting bitch as a good thing.” I would like to believe that Baron is being sarcastic but the sad thing is that this is really happening. I know girls that say, “hey bitch” to their friends and they don’t get mad, but if they say you are a bitch then they get offended. Another word that girls use when talking to each is ho. “Whats up ho,” is a famous line using the word, just like the “N” word girls can call each other a ho but when a boy does they have crossed the line. Why is it that only certain people can use certain words when talking to certain people?
I think this article has some very good points such as the gay rights movement, and it being alright to make derogatory comments to women. It is sad but most of the stuff is true when it shouldn’t be. There is a t-shirt that people actually wear that says, “You say bitch as if it was a bad thing,” what women would buy that and promote that it is alright for people or men to call us bitches?

Brute
A3
In my mind a brute is someone who has no feeling, respect, and someone who behaves in violent ways, and doesn’t care about the consequences. I think that the patient fits all of these characteristics and the doctor only fits some of them. Obviously the patient doesn’t really care about his actions because it took four police man to keep him under control. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think that 4 police man would try to hold a grown man down for no reason, so obviously he was violent in some way. Also from all of the scars on the patient’s body he has acted this way many times. Obviously the doctor was a brute because he stitched the patients ear lobes to the table but what else was he supposed to do?....let him lay there and bleed to death? I think the doctor was just trying to act quick and get the crazy patient off of his hands.

Paper 2 What or who determines if a person is mature or immature? Our society has certain standards at certain age levels that determine whether a person is immature or not. The natural progression of age is maturity, however, there always are those people that act immature. Immaturity is defined as age appropriate such as a four year old might say “I have to pee” where a fourteen year old should say “may I use the restroom,” this would be a sign of maturity. There are many different things people do or say that make them come across as immature. Immature people can be disrespectful, rude, and sometimes are not good listeners; which sometimes perceives the person to come across as ignorant or dumb. Immaturity is known as emotionally undeveloped, not mature, not ripe and childish according to dictionary.com. I think that the word immature has a negative connotation. I believe that a person can be immature partly due to the way they were brought up and their upbringing. I believe maturity can actually be a taught characteristic of a person. At a young age my parents taught me to be polite and they did not allow me to talk “baby talk.” Many of my parent’s friends would comment on how I was mature for my age. I believe it is because my parents didn’t allow me to behave like an immature child. When I was younger I was always taught to say please and thank you. In today’s world some parents won’t teach their children to be polite which in turns teaches them to be mature. In middle school, boys seem so much more immature than girls. They cannot walk by another student in the hallway without hitting or punching someone. Boys think everything is funny at that age. Where girls are starting to become young adults and they start their maturity process. Boys usually do out grow immaturity they are just a few years behind girls. I was out to dinner with my family and a little girl did not want to eat what she ordered so she started to cry and throw a fit but I could not figure out who was the immature one because then the mother continued to argue with the child when she should have just made her behave in the restaurant. Not that I was an angel when I was a little girl, but my parents always knew they could take me anywhere in a public place and I would use my manners and behave myself. If you are allowed to be immature as a child you will act in those ways when you are older. I also think that watching television has a great impact on people and how mature or immature they are. Watching Lindsay Lohan’s behavior and seeing how she does drugs and gets arrested, people begin to think that behavior like that is alright. When really Lindsay Lohan is the immature one and is not setting a very good example for her “immature” fans that are watching. Today the internet plays a huge role in setting examples, showing all of the immature videos on youtube.com and google videos. Years ago people would not laugh at people that got hurt, but now it is a common pass time for teenagers. The media is another avenue to show the world how ignorant people can be and how immature our society is by spending time watching such shows. *I remember in my high school band class there were always people that would get their instruments out and just start blowing on them as loud as they can, laughing like it was the funniest thing in the world - it was always so annoying and my friends and I would always notice how immature they were being, if the teacher would tell them to stop they would not listen and just talk back, if they were mature in the first place they would not have blown through their horn to make the loud noise and secondly they would show respect to the teacher and stop when told to. * Sometimes being the more mature one is difficult, but in the long run the person is usually more respected and a person people want to be around.

In my paper I used the word immature. There are many different ways that people can be immature and there are different ways people can judge others about being immature. Immature means many different things to different people. In my paper I listed many different experiences I have had when people are being immature. I think by listing these different experiences I have had made it easier to write my paper because each situation led to a different one. I think that I used my logos, ethos, and pathos very well but I was stronger in the logos part.
